Fine Motor Tasks In the Classroom

Ellyn

There are an unlimited number of ways to include fine motor tasks into curriculum throughout the day. While in the CDA program you are required to provide an activity that you will use or have used as a teacher in a childcare setting. I wanted to provide some of my favorite, and most simple ideas that will entertain younger children while also improving their fine motor skills! Cotton balls, pompoms, cereals, beads (for children past the age of putting everything in their mouth!) can all be used to improve fine motor skills. By using a variety of containers, children can place, and sort the item into different places challenging their accuracy. Another idea is to create art projects with those materials, requiring children to grasp the items and place them onto multi media context. These are very basic ideas, but at www.cdaclass.org we challenge you to share your most creative and unique ideas!
